The Year is 2499.
Humanity is enslaved.
In the twenty-fifth century, a handful of mega-corporations control all of human space. Faster-than-light travel depends on Drivers — psionically gifted humans who navigate ships through the enigmatic Space II using sacred mistletoe blossoms from Yggdrasil, the primordial cosmic tree.
But the Drivers are slaves. Owned by the corporations. Controlled by the ruthless Gray Guards and their supreme commander, Max von Valdec, Chairman of the Council of Corporations.
Then a young fugitive Driver named David terGorden — the prophesied Heir of Power — emerges from hiding. And across the galaxy, a forbidden organization called the Terranauts begins to stir.

The Anti–Perry Rhodan
Published by Bastei Verlag from 1979 to 1981, Die Terranauten was explicitly conceived as the ideological counterpoint to Perry Rhodan, Germany's dominant science fiction series. Where Rhodan celebrated military heroism and imperial expansion, the Terranauts gave readers eco-rebels, corporate resistance, and a hero who chose symbiosis over domination.
The Frankfurter Rundschau called it the "Öko-Skywalker" — a saga that married ecological consciousness with cosmic adventure. Written by a team of eleven authors under pen names, the series ran for 99 weekly installments plus 18 collected paperback editions, producing over 2.6 million words of interconnected space opera.
Despite critical praise, declining newsstand sales led to cancellation. The series fell into obscurity for decades. Now, for the first time, the entire saga has been translated into English and is being expanded with new story arcs, an audiobook production, and the most comprehensive encyclopedia of its universe ever created.
