Aura Damona Mar

Status: Active

Aura Damona Mar is a bio-psionic entity conceived within the PSI-aura of the Maritime Coral City on Sarym, the daughter of Lyda Mar and Damon Credock. She is one of the most extraordinary beings in the Terranauten saga -- an Oracle with innate mastery over the planet's bio-psionic systems, capable of influencing organic matter, communicating telepathically even before birth, and interfacing directly with the ancient technology of the Buds of the Tree. Her existence bridges the gap between humanity and the primordial plant intelligences that once shaped the cosmos.

Origins

Conception in the Maritime Coral City

Aura Damona Mar was conceived under extraordinary circumstances during the events of 042 - The Gatherer. Her parents, Lyda Mar -- a Terranaut and nascent Mediator from Naria -- and Damon Credock -- a Surine Mediator and village leader on Sarym -- journeyed to the Maritime Coral City, a vast coral structure in the ocean of Sarym that served as the central control element for the planet's Bio-PSI system.

Within the city, Lyda and Damon used Dream-hooks to synchronize their minds with the ancient presence dwelling in the coral city. During this deep psionic merging, their consciousnesses fused, and Aura Damona Mar was conceived -- not merely biologically, but within the very fabric of the PSI-aura itself. This unique origin imbued her with abilities far beyond those of ordinary Drivers or Mediators. She was, from the moment of conception, a being interwoven with the bio-psionic field of Sarym.

The Death of Damon Credock

Aura Damona's father, Damon Credock, was killed during a staged prison break from Hermano Lotz's secret research station on Sarym (044 - The Escape Vessel). His echo, however, persisted within the PSI-aura of the Maritime Coral City, allowing a form of posthumous contact. When Lyda Mar later entered the coral city, she was able to connect with both Damon's lingering presence and her unborn daughter (061 - Death Awaits on Sarym).

Abilities

Bio-Psionic Mediation

Aura Damona Mar inherited and transcended the Mediator gifts of both her parents. Where ordinary Mediators can communicate with and influence the variable ecology of Sarym, Aura Damona operates on a far deeper level, interfacing directly with the PSI-aura, the PSI-net, and the organic technology of the Buds of the Tree.

Prenatal Telepathy

Even before birth, Aura Damona demonstrated the ability to communicate telepathically. In 048 - Narda and the Sky Marshal, she spoke to her mother Lyda Mar in a dream, revealing that their presence on a doomed planet near a Black Hole was preventing a greater catastrophe. In 061 - Death Awaits on Sarym, the still-unborn Aura Damona warned Lyda of the impending chaos as the Great Ebb approached, triggering the release of Dream-hooks programmed to spread destruction across Sarym.

PSI-Aura Interfacing and Control

After merging with the PSI-aura of the Maritime Coral City (063 - War of Minds), Aura Damona gained the ability to control and channel the bio-psionic field. Together with her mother, she turned the power of a Kaiser Force ship back against Max von Valdec, and the resulting shockwave was absorbed by the petrified Modificators. She and Lyda Mar remained in the Maritime Coral City to maintain control of the PSI-aura, becoming its living stewards.

Organic Ship Cultivation

Aura Damona demonstrated the ability to grow living spaceships from the bio-psionic substrate of Sarym. In 072 - Legacy in Ice, she cultivated a storm-sailor -- a living spaceship -- for David terGorden and Mandorla to use on their journey to Adzharis and Earth.

Collector Interface

By the time of 083 - Chaos Over Sarym, Aura Damona had developed the ability to interface with the Collector, a giant organic spaceship created by the Buds of the Tree. She partially awakened a dormant Collector, reversing the sealing-off process of the Norvo System initiated by the ancient Modification Submatrix. This act, however, also activated an ancient command within the Collector to seek out the Buds of the Tree, setting the stage for the great journey that followed.

Weltenbaum Empowerment

On the Solitary Wanderer, a sunless planet harboring a World Tree, Aura Damona was empowered by the Weltenbaum after David terGorden and Narda awakened it (084 - The Gene-Parasites). This empowerment allowed her to regain control of the Collector, eliminate the Gene-Parasites that had been consuming the ship, and save both the vessel and the planet from a Kaiser Force accumulation.

Role in the Saga

The War of Minds (Issue 063)

Aura Damona's first major active role came during the war for control of the PSI-aura on Sarym. While Max von Valdec attempted to dominate the PSI-aura using Super-Drivers like Prometheus 107, Isis 31, and Phoenix 34, Aura Damona -- still carried by her mother Lyda Mar -- intervened decisively. She aided Lyda in transporting David terGorden, Llewellyn 709, and the super-Drivers to the heart of the PSI-aura, where the super-Drivers were destroyed. When Valdec ordered a Kaiser Force ship to destroy the Maritime Coral City, Aura Damona and Lyda turned the ship's power against him.

After the battle, Aura Damona and Lyda remained in the Maritime Coral City to control the PSI-aura, becoming its guardians.

Guiding David terGorden (Issues 072, 083)

By the time of 072 - Legacy in Ice, Aura Damona had grown into a "young girl" and served as a guide and counselor to David terGorden. When the Driver Council refused David a ship to travel to Earth, he sought guidance from the PSI-aura and encountered Aura Damona, who confirmed his path and the importance of the Book Myriam. She also grew the storm-sailor that enabled his journey.

In 083 - Chaos Over Sarym, Aura Damona assisted David in his research on the Buds of the Tree and, together with Narda, extracted him from the PSI-Net when he became trapped. She then partially awakened the sleeping Collector, an act that reversed the sealing-off of the Norvo System but launched them on a journey beyond Sarym.

The Journey Aboard the Collector (Issues 084-088, 094-095)

The awakened Collector departed Sarym carrying David terGorden, Aura Damona Mar, and Narda, bound for the exile of the Buds of the Tree. During this voyage:

  • 084 - The Gene-Parasites: The Collector was infected by mutated Change Seeds that had become dangerous Gene-Parasites. Aura Damona guided David and Narda through the Collector's organic interior but lost control as the infection spread. After David and Narda awakened the Weltenbaum on the Solitary Wanderer, Aura Damona -- empowered by the World Tree -- eliminated the Gene-Parasites and saved the Collector.
  • 088 - The Exile Planet: On Last Sleep, the Dream Prison of the Renegades, Aura Damona urged the Collector to land and rescue the Terranauts. After Schoen-Duft, a Bud of the Tree, sacrificed herself to transform the Renegades back into a World Tree, Aura Damona regained control of the Collector, and they departed for the Old Forest.

Key Relationships

Lyda Mar (Mother)

Lyda Mar, a Driver and Mediator from Naria, is Aura Damona's mother. Lyda was herself transformed by her experiences on Sarym -- from a reluctant Mediator to a true one, and ultimately to an Oracle dwelling within the PSI-aura of the Maritime Coral City. The bond between mother and daughter is both biological and psionic. Together they acted as guardians of the PSI-aura following the War of Minds, and Lyda continued to watch over Sarym from the coral city even after Aura Damona departed aboard the Collector.

Damon Credock (Father, Deceased)

Damon Credock was a Surine Mediator who guided the Terranauts on Sarym and fell in love with Lyda Mar. His merging of minds with Lyda in the Maritime Coral City led to Aura Damona's conception. Although he was killed during the escape from Hermano Lotz's research station (044 - The Escape Vessel), his echo endured within the PSI-aura, and his Mediator heritage was passed fully to his daughter.

David terGorden

David terGorden, the Heir of Power and Bearer of the Monochord, became Aura Damona's closest ally and the figure she was destined to guide. She counseled him through the PSI-aura, grew ships for him, extracted him from psionic traps, and accompanied him on the cosmic journey aboard the Collector to find the Buds of the Tree, the Old Forest, and ultimately the means to reactivate the Long Row. Their relationship is one of mutual dependence: David needs her psionic guidance and interface abilities, while she needs his unique status as one of the Spectra to fulfill the mission of averting the Kaiser Force catastrophe.

Narda (del Drago)

Narda, also known as Narda del Drago, is a Dragon Witch and telepath who has been David's companion since childhood. When the Collector departed Sarym, Narda joined David and Aura Damona, forming a trio that endured the dangers of deep space, the Gene-Parasites, the Renegades, and the mysteries of the Old Forest. Narda's telepathic and combat abilities complemented Aura Damona's bio-psionic and navigational powers, making them an effective team.

Significance

Aura Damona Mar occupies a unique position in the Terranauten universe. She is neither fully human nor fully a creature of the PSI-aura -- she exists at the intersection of organic humanity and the ancient bio-psionic intelligence of the Buds of the Tree. Her conception in the Maritime Coral City endowed her with an innate connection to the planetary consciousness that no training could replicate.

As an Oracle, she provides cryptic prophecies and strategic guidance that shape the course of events. As a bio-psionic Mediator, she can grow living ships, interface with the Collector, and channel the PSI-aura to devastating effect. Her role alongside David terGorden in the quest to reactivate the Intercosmic Anti-Entropy System (the Long Row) places her at the very center of the saga's overarching conflict: the struggle to prevent the Kaiser Force from destroying the galaxy.
